The passion behind the Foundation
The Mighty Miles Foundation is in the process of being established by founder Jodie Sherwood to honor the memory of her son, Miles James Bishop. Miles was a brave young boy whose life was tragically cut short on the morning of his third birthday due to his lifelong struggle with Left Heart Hypoplastic Syndrome (HLHS). Diagnosed at 19 weeks in utero, Miles' journey was marked by resilience and determination, both from him and his family.
From the moment Jodie learned about Miles' diagnosis, her life changed drastically. As a nurse, she understood the complexities of medical care but was unprepared for the emotional and financial challenges that would follow. Over the course of five heart surgeries, countless hospital stays, and numerous ancillary procedures, Jodie faced the heartbreak of watching her son fight for his life while also grappling with the overwhelming burden of medical bills. She experienced firsthand the stress of trying to balance caring for a sick child with the everyday demands of life, all while navigating a complex healthcare system.
In the wake of Miles’ passing, Jodie felt a deep calling to channel her grief into action. Thus, The idea of The Mighty Miles Foundation was born on August 8, 2024, with a mission to provide support for families facing similar challenges. The foundation is driven by a passion for supporting children facing health challenges and their families, offering financial assistance, vital resources, and advocacy. We understand the emotional and financial toll that serious illnesses can take, and we are committed to providing help where it is needed most.
At The Mighty Miles Foundation, we believe in the power of community, compassion, and hope. Together, we aim to create a supportive environment that honors Miles’ spirit and helps bring smiles to children during their toughest moments.
